A leather jacket should fit well from day one, because leather does not stretch the way fabric does. Use these steps to measure yourself and check the fit.
What you need
A soft measuring tape and, ideally, a friend to help. Wear a thin top, not a bulky sweater.
How to measure
- Chest: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, keeping it level.
- Shoulders: Measure straight across your back from one shoulder edge to the other.
- Sleeve length: Measure from the shoulder edge to your wrist bone with your arm relaxed.
- Length: Measure from the base of your neck to where you want the jacket to end.
What a good fit looks like
- Shoulder seams sit at the edge of your shoulders.
- You can zip or button the jacket comfortably and still move your arms.
- Sleeves end around your wrist bone.
- There is room for a light layer underneath, such as a T-shirt or thin knit.
Between sizes?
If you are between sizes and plan to layer, consider the larger size. If you prefer a close, slim look, choose the smaller one. Relaxed and oversized styles are cut roomier, so check the product description.
